Charles Arpke is a 1939 graduate of BHS. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1948 with a BA in bacteriology, an MA in 1950 and received the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star for his effort serving his country. He was instrumental in founding the Explosives Research and Development Laboratories at Eglin Air Force Base. He published over 170 classified reports on weapons and retired in 1986.
