David Maurstad is currently Assistant Administrator for Federal Insurance at the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (a part of the Department of Homeland Security) where he leads the $3.5 billion National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
He is also the highest ranked state of Nebraska official to graduate from Beatrice High School. From 1999 to 2001 he served as Nebraska’s Lieutenant Governor. Maurstad was also a state senator, mayor of Beatrice and a Beatrice school board member.
As Lieutenant Governor he presided over the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature, served as federal liaison, monitoring and advocating legislation, troubleshooting and negotiating with federal agencies on behalf of the Governor’s office and state agencies, led the administration transition work for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS), served as senior advisor on policy and budget. In addition, he chaired the Nebraska Information and Technology Commission, finalizing the first state-wide technology plan.
Maurstad graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduating he was a golf professional for four years before returning to Beatrice and working with his father at Maurstad Insurance Services, Inc.
