Dr. Dixie Mager is a 1971 graduate of BHS. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1975 and received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in cell biology. After postdoctoral work at the University of Wisconsin in genetics, Dr. Mager established her own research laboratory in 1986 within the Terry Fox Laboratory, BC Cancer Agency, Vancouver, British Columbia, where she is now Distinguished Scientist. She also has an academic appointment as a Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at University of BC. Her work as a scientist has concentrated on genetics and gene regulation in cancer. She has trained many students and postdoctoral fellows, has published over 140 research papers and given numerous lectures concerning her work throughout the world. Dr. Mager was nominated by Burnell Guy, who provided early inspiration to her in his biology class at BHS.
