Sarah Morris
Friend of Education
Some workers do their job at such a high level each day that the level of expectations is unconsciously raised for those around them without those workers even being aware of it. These same workers are often taken for granted because they do their job without being reminded or without supervision. Sarah Morris is one such worker at Beatrice High School and the recipient of the 2016 Friend of Education Award.
Morris has been with BPS in the same position for 33 school years. She has the work down to a fine art, rarely missing a beat or becoming flustered. She is a fountain of district information, having worked through many changes in the world of education.
If you ask students about Morris, you may get a descriptive response involving her collection of M&M memorabilia. To many, she is the M&M lady in the M&M room long before they have a chance to know her real name. Much of Morris' memorabilia are tokens from thankful students, families, and staff for the help she has rendered them. A parent of one of these girls said, "My student would have been lost without the help of Mrs. Morris."
Morris is instrumental in the scheduling of classes, maintaining transcripts of all students' grades, figuring class rank, and posting honor roll. She also solicits and maintains scholarship donors.
In addition, she plays an important role in assisting the Beatrice Educational Foundation Scholarship committee each year going beyond the "normal job" of assembling the applications by creating spreadsheets with class rank, eligibility, financial data, etc. She makes sure the students are anonymous to the committee through her diligent preparation of the forms.
She carried the same attention to students and details in her role as Drill Team sponsor for 23 years. She played an important role in the lives of many of those girls. in short, Sarah Morris is an ambassador for Beatrice High School and a real friend to education.
