After graduating from Beatrice High School in 1958, Ted attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He graduated from UNL in 1962 with majors in history and political science. He continued his education at UNL as a graduate student in Political Science and received a fellowship from the National Center of Education in Politics at New York University.
Ted has led a life committed to public service, education, and business leadership. He has accomplished much in his four-decade career. Highlights include; serving as campaign manager for Clair Callan's successful bid as Nebraska's First Congressional District Representative; Former Chief of Staff to the Governor of South Dakota; former Vice President for the U.S. Senate in South Dakota; former Vice President for University Relations at the University of South Dakota; past president and CEO of Sodak Distributing company; past chairman of the Sioux Empire United Way; former national board member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association and President Emeritus of the University of South Dakota Foundation. The University of South Dakota Hall of Fame has recognized Ted's accomplishments in higher education where the student center is named in his honor. The South Dakota Hall of Fame has also recognized his contributions to the state, by inducting him into their Hall of Fame in 2009. In semi-retirement, Ted continues work at the USD Foundation on a part-time basis, devoting his efforts to developing a capital campaign on behalf of the National Music Museum on the USD campus. He also works as a consultant to the Avera McKennan Foundation and serves on the Vermillion Planning and Zoning Commission, and as a director of the Vermillion Area Community Foundation.
