Ervin Dixon is a 1964 graduate of BHS. Following high school, Ervin attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for 2 years, studied sculpture at the Kansas City Art Institute and finished graduate work before becoming a professor at the University of Miami. For the past 30-plus years, he has continued his pottery work by owning and operating Cedar Creek Pottery with serving as an educator for BHS students and students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln hosting them for unique learning opportunity experiences. He received the Building Saver Award from the Gage County Heritage Preservation for the restoration of a church built in 1895 which now serves as his work studio and gallery. His annual exhibits bring visitors from all surrounding states, some as far as Texas and Oklahoma. As stated by a fellow professor, Ervin Dixon is a Nebraska treasure.
