Colonel Richard L. Hamer is a 1963 graduate of Beatrice High School. He graduated with honors from Peru State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before joining the Air Force. Colonel Hamer served in the Air Force for over 30 years and is a veteran of the Vietnam War flying over 200 combat missions. After the war, he became the base commander of Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California. He retired from active duty in 1999 and has been the Director of Business Development and General Manager for a property management company in the Dallas, Texas area. Colonel Hamer is a director of the Greater Dallas Military Foundation and a past Chairman of the Dallas Military Ball. Over the years, the Foundation Ball has raised millions of dollars for various charities. He is the former president and the current Vice President of Education of the Seidel Chapter of the Air Force Association and past Chairman and current treasurer for the Texas Aerospace.
