Richard Engberg is a 1953 graduate of BHS. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1959. Mr. Engberg began his career with the US Geological Survey Water-Resources Lab (USGS) as a Laboratory chemist. He was promoted to District Chief with USGS in 1989. In 1989 he was appointed as the manager of the National Irrigation Water Quality Program in Washington, DC and supervised over 150 staff assigned to four federal agencies. He retired in 1999. Mr. Engberg Authored over 50 books on water quality and has received numerous federal service awards, including the Distinguished Service Award, which is the Department of Interior’s highest award.
